Poetry by Stephen J Cribari
Heedless of the raptor on the wire
This small bird
Forsakes the hedgerow for the treetop higher
To be heard.
More exposed, easier to slay,
Its urge toward song will its undoing bring
Yet this small bird will sing
While it may.
I know we die and know the reason why.
It does not,
And that its song be wasted on the sky
Matters not.
It has its moment, be it short or long,
And in this moment all there is is song.
Come what may.
