Poetry by Karin Eaton

I took the path through the woods again today
behind the farmhouse
through the old wooden gate
dressed in fall colours with trailing vines

I was here yesterday and the day before
searching through a carpet of leaves
for a glove – not just any glove –
the one I wore when you held my hand
the one that holds your imprint and warmth
one of a pair you gifted me last year
Its mate is alone, longing to be reunited

I take the path through the woods each day
searching, hoping, praying, knowing
it’s not the loss of a glove I mourn
it’s the warmth of the touch of your hand.
