Poetry by James Penha

enjoy life my husband says poolside
as he sets down the sandwiches
and salad he invented to help me
set aside the diagnosis rendered
the day before by a no-nonsense
doctor who prescribed an inhaler
to help me breathe for the rest
of the life my husband wants me
to enjoy as long as we both have it
