Poetry by Lara Lehman

What is the point,
if not this?

To stand, leaning
on the unmade bed,
this quiet January morning.

You stopped
for a moment
to play with the cat.

…A bit idly, now.
You both feel a
second sleep coming on.
You see it in her eyes.
Time for rest,
Not time to fight
.

The air is cool.
The sun is white.

And there is no reason
not to celebrate this day
by taking your naps now.
